Mass Shooting Hypocrisy

I'm trying to wrap my head around the hypocrisy of the news/president/everyone else in the aftermath of the recent Florida school shooting.  Most recently in the news it came to light that the armed school police officer waited outside when the shooter was gunning down students in the school.  The active shooter protocol for most law enforcement agencies after Columbine is to engage the shooter as quickly as possible to prevent as many deaths as possible.  So yes, the officer probably should have went in after the shooter instead of twiddling his thumbs while kids were being killed yet in the worst mass shooting in America which happened a few months ago in Las Vegas there was an entire team of police officers who stood outside the shooter's hotel room door for over an hour before entering the room.  In defense of their actions some of the Vegas cops said they didn't hear any more shooting so they took their time but they had no idea if the shooter was just reloading or not.  Hypocritical much?

Then there was the meh public reaction when 59 people were killed in the Vegas mass shooting yet now after the Florida shooting it is for some reason time to ban all semi-auto firearms (nevermind that the people calling for this ban have no idea that most firearms are semi-auto these days but whatever). 

Did you know that around 35,000 people are killed each year in car crashes?  I haven't heard anyone call for banning cars so I guess people like cars more than guns so they can overlook tens of thousands of deaths (cars) but not hundreds of deaths (mass shootings).  Again, the hypocrisy is staggering.

I'm just not a fan of knee-jerk reactions (I'm looking at you Connecticut).  I am, however, a fan of calm and deliberate planning with enough time to assess all angles of a problem before figuring out how to solve the root causes of the problem.  Simply banning as many guns as possible doesn't address the root cause of the issue (why do people turn to mass killings these days when this wasn't an issue years ago when guns were much more widely available?).

So my answer to everyone saying guns are bad!  Guns are deadly (duh)! Is that cars are more so.  If they want to protect as many people as possible they may want to work their way down the leading cause of death chart and ban food that will kill you (the top several leading causes of death are lifestyle diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc mostly due to what you eat and how much you exercise).  Maybe ban opiods (64,000 people died of opiod overdose in 2016), cars (35,000+ deaths in 2016), and some how prevent falls (around 30,000 deaths in 2016).
