If you want to be financially secure, consider having these items on hand:
- Insurance (home, life, auto, medical, business, and Executive Risk if necessary)
- Emergency cash stashed someplace safe
- A list of account information for all debts and monthly expenses
- A retirement account (IRA, 401k, 403b, etc)
- Immediate access to a personal line of credit (bank, friend, credit card, etc)
- A well-paying job and/or
- Gainfully self-employed
- A great tax accountant
- A great attorney
- A diversified investment portfolio
- Checking, savings, and Money Market accounts
- A plan to review your credit report annually and immediately correct mistakes
- A Will, Living Will, and Power of Attorney
- Someone you can trust to take care of your finances for you when you are away from home for long periods of time (of course you will trust but verify)
- A cross cut shredder
